Next show: atheists – amoral bastards? Plus, a quiz.
This Friday we’ll be featuring an interview w/ Dan Barker, president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Unfortunately, due to his busy schedule, the interview won’t be live, but after it wraps up, you can call Des & Heather to talk about whether a person needs a higher being to have a moral compass.
Dan will be speaking right here in Edmonton (Can You Be Moral Without God?) Wednesday, November 19th, in room 1-50 of the Telus Building on the University of Alberta campus.
We air Friday, 6-7 p.m., MST. You can listen live on 88.5 FM in Edmonton, or online at www.cjsr.com. Call us at 780-492-2577, ext. 1, or drop us an email at q (at) cjsr (dot) com.
Also, please do this quiz. Thank you.
Hypnotherapy Post-Show Links and such
In this evening’s episode, we learned that you cannot be hypnotized against your will, cognitive-behavior therapy is just as successful as hypnosis (but without all the lovely relaxing) and past-life regression could be attributed to inadvertent plagiarism. And also that Edmonton has a creepy, crappy card-trick demonstrating hypnotist clown.
Thanks very much to Basia Urbanski for coming to speak to us! To learn more about her, visit her website.
Some of the sources I used for tonight’s show were:
Hypnosis entry in the Skeptics’ Dictionary
Comments about the above entry
Meta-analysis on efficacy of hypnosis
Study on Cryptomnesia
Article on Children and hypnosis in Canadian Family Physician, the official publication of the College of Family Physicians of Canada
Past Life Regression entry in Skeptics’ Dictionary
See you next week!

Q Transmissions on YouTube
Nathan has posted the séance video!
Visit our beautiful new YouTube channel to look for any errant orbs, fleeting flickers or inappropriate supernatural sexual activity. Oh, how I wish I was joking about that last part.

This Week: Hypnotherapy
This week we’ll be speaking with local Clinical Hypnotherapist Basia Urbanski. We’ll be discussing hypnotherapy’s curative value, what it can and can’t do, and if there’s a difference between it and when that dude made you cluck like a chicken at Capital X last summer.
We know you have questions. A veritable plethora of them, possibly. Call in this Friday and ask away.
And about our last show… thanks so much to Laura LaForce for spending her Halloween evening leading the séance. And thanks to Nathan who, as always, is wonderful about ensuring that the show gets play in a multitude of ways. Last week he videotaped us, and he’s currently building a Q Transmissions YouTube channel. If you do not have a Nathan, you should be very jealous.
And thanks again to all of you that donated to FunDrive. We appreciate knowing that people are interested enough in our show to donate money, and CJSR appreciates being able to pay their utility bills for another year.
See you on Friday!

Seance show links
Thanks so much to everyone who donated!
We raised $1,420 on our show and brought the FunDrive grand total to over $100,000! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Everyone who donated gets a Q Transmissions sticker. Congrats to our two grand prize winners – one gets din-din (Hooters!) w/ Des and I, the other gets to pick a show topic. Whee!!
Here are some of the links, well, all of the links, I used to prep for tonight’s seance show.

Bible versus condemning contacting the dead
I know, I’m an atheist, so what do I care what the Bible says? Well, I usually don’t. However, there are some smart bits in there, like this one: “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.” – Leviticus 19:31 (okay, except for the last sentence…)
Chriss Angel does a seance, part one, two, and three.
Derren Brown does a seance (and does a much better job), part one, two, three, four, five, and six.
Again, a HUGE thanks to all who donated. CJSR cannot exist without the support of its listeners. I’d write, “bless you”, but that’s not very becoming of an atheist. Um, how about “thank Science for you”? No, too South Park. I know: thanks. Thanks so very, very much.
Seance update!
Q Transmissions favorite Laura LaForce will be acting as medium for our Hallowe’en seance show! W00t!

Boo!
This Friday will be our second FunDrive show. We did well last week, but we wanna do weller this week.
Our next show will be our scariest ever, I hope. We’re going to spend the first half of the show talking about the history of the seance. In the second half, we’re actually gonna hold one, live in the studio. Our biggest fan, Nathan, will be videotaping it, so check in again after the show to see the video.
A reminder of the things that might entice you to donate (other than ’cause it’s the right thing to do):
- get a Q Transmissions sticker
- a chance to pick a topic for the show – you pick, Des & I research, find a guest, and give it our all
- a chance to have dinner w/ me & Des – we even pick up the tab
Last week’s winner of a movie w/ us was thrilled. Thrilled, I say! You could feel this thrill – if you give CJSR money.
How to donate: www.cjsr.com, or 780-492-2577, ext. 1.
Do it.

Post-show death links… and love!
Thanks to Jared Zsombor, Medical Investigator, for a fascinating and somewhat amusing look at death.
A couple of resources I looked at for the discussion of organ donation and “transferred memory” were:
Mindshock: Transplanting Memories – A non-skeptical transferred memory program Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Skeptical article on cellular memory
Transplant doctor on cellular memory
And thanks so much to all of you that took the opportunity to show us love by donating.
Congratulations to Susan, the lucky winner of the movie evening with the lovely hosts of your favorite radio program!
Don’t worry if you didn’t have time to donate during this show… you have another chance on October 31st, which is also another chance to win. Or go here for other ways to give us your money.
Thanks again… and keep listening!
